A recent anti-terrorism investigation has found sky high radiation levels at a Staten Island Park frequented by thousand of City residents. A source close to the investigation has identified the park as Gateway National Park. The Parksite is located in the Great Kills portion of Staten Island and was formerly an old industrial site. Multiple soil samples taken were analyzed and revealed large quantities of radium in the soil. Long-term exposure to radium increases the risk of developing lymphoma, bone cancer and leukemia.
The Park is operated by the National Park Service. Spokesman Brian Feeney said the area is a one-acre piece of the 570-acre Great Kills Park, which is part of the larger Gateway park.
