We are living in a cell phone era. Kids, teenagers, adults and even the elderly have at least one cell phone in their households. Cell phones have basically become customized to fit our everyday needs. Starting with built in cameras, internet, email, games, tv, news, text messaging and even business software. Cell phones have become an important way of communication.
Many of us spend so much time on our cell phones that we never stop to think that they might be dangerous to our health. In October 2009 there was a news report on a international study by the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer about a link between cell phone usage and brain cancer. There were suggestions that long periods of cell phone usage caused two types of brain cancer Meningioma and Glioma.
According to May 17, 2010 Newsday article "No Clear Answer on Phone Cancer Tie" by Frank Jordans, the international study that had been conducted by the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer was inconclusive. Many key factors were left out of the previous study which is needed to evaluate a conclusive link. For example, using hands free devices during calls or the risk of having cell phones close by while not making calls, such as in a pocket, or next to the bed at night. The article explains that there were discrepancies with the study and further investigations are needed.
