Royston Ferguson, 35, was off-duty riding his motorcycle along Rockaway Parkway in Canarsie, Brooklyn when he was struck by a 2015 Kia Sorrento Suv. The Kia Sorrento was being operated by an off duty NYC School Safety Agent when it swung a dangerous U-Turn across Rockaway Parkway directly into Ferguson’s path. Ferguson had no chance to avoid the collision.
The motorcycle and Kia collided ejecting and seriously injuring Ferguson. He tragically passed away at Brookdale University Hospital.
Ferguson heroically worked out of the Patrol Borough Brooklyn North command and was approaching his ten year anniversary which would have been celebrated in July.
Colleagues remarked that “He was an amazing officer,”
NYC has lost a dedicated and brave NYPD officer who risked his life every day to keep us all safe. Tragically he lost his life due to a preventable collision when a vehicle suddenly made a U-turn directly in his path. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the Ferguson family during this tremendously difficult time.
