At Penn Station, the Gateway to New York City on 34th street, there was a tragic multiple vehicle collision around 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday morning involving a UPS truck, a Tesla Model Y Revel taxi, and a New York City Tour Bus, leaving bystanders shocked by the aftermath.
The damage to the Revel taxi was catastrophic.
In a statement from the FDNY, firefighters were called to the scene to treat a possible trauma patient. According to CBS New York, miraculously, the Tesla Revel driver survived and was transported to Bellevue Hospital for treatment, although no details are available on that person's condition.
Bystanders recall the collision occurring when the Model Y Revel taxi clipped the UPS delivery truck at high speed (~70mph) and was sent careening into a nearby New York tour bus before coming to a stop in the middle of the street outside of Old Navy.
Police on the Herald Square scene are still investigating the cause of the accident.
Statements from Revel and UPS indicate they are both aware of the crash, are "looking into the circumstances," and cooperating with authorities.
Revel launched their Tesla rideshare vehicles in Manhattan last August. While reports of crashes on its e-scooters have made headlines over the past year, it's not immediately clear if Revel’s Tesla rideshares have been involved in any other car accidents in New York.
